Construction begins on second pontoon for Lady Musgrave Experience

Construction/refurbishment is underway for a second pontoon to be permanently moored at Lady Musgrave Island Lagoon.

It will be a Citizen Science-based pontoon for Lady Musgrave Experience visitors and data collection personnel.

The education hub is purpose built to offer our guests advanced GBR educational experiences, perfect for school groups, research organisations and dive groups.

The new research pontoon will facilitate:

  • high quality experiential learning for our guests
  • data collection and research monitoring through our wildlife ecologist/marine biologists and collaborative partners
  • Marine-Biologist-for-a-Day activities
  • Reef Keeper program research hub
  • Guided Snorkel Safaris
  • Coral adoption and transplanting program activities
  • Reef health surveys conducted by our wildlife ecology team and collaborative partners

Direct quote from Brett Lakey Founder & Owner:

“Our guests are often surprised and grateful at how much they learn during their tour with us, however we feel that we can further cater to the growing and evolving consumer demand for transformational educational experiences in nature via a purpose-built education and research pontoon. Our crew take pride in delivering transformational experiences in nature that exceed guest expectations. Having this pontoon will provide the physical platform to seamlessly deliver experiences that inspire guests to become Citizen Scientists and collect and report valuable data used by experts such as the GBRMPA and QPWS to make management decisions. Our most valuable proposition being in the nature-based tourism industry is to focus on immersive engagement, with experiences that offer knowledge, appreciation of the natural environment and the ability for our guests to participate and contribute.”
